The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted a visit from a representative of George Mason University in the United States.

Dr. Brian Gibson, Executive Director, Global Education Office, took a tour of the AURAK campus and met with senior figures at the university including the President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim.

George Mason University is based in Fairfax, Virginia, around 25 kilometers from central Washington D.C. The university has around 40,000 students of which 20 percent are international. It also has a campus in Incheon, South Korea, with roughly 600 students.

Dr. Gibson said he is trying to get opportunities for students to go abroad and wants more students to visit this part of the world and have more students from the region.

He said that George Mason University has an attractive summer program for international students at the Fairfax campus. The summer program lasts either two or four weeks and includes multiple tracks such as environment, arts, STEM and business. There are regular excursions in Virginia and to Washington D.C. Dr. Gibson added that the university has strong contacts with alumni which enables it to arrange site visits. He said the university has a practical focus and an active center for entrepreneurship.

AURAK leaders and Dr. Gibson talked over potential areas of cooperation during their meeting including the possibility of student exchanges.
