AURAK Participates in Think Science Competition 2019

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) students participated in the Think Science Competition 2019 to develop knowledge in the fields of science and technology.

Think Science is the region’s largest science competition, focused on engaging eager and gifted individuals with innovative solutions aimed at serving the community and bettering the lives of others. The competition also encourages the development of skills in design and building a working scientific prototype using scientific knowledge and analytical skills to solve practical problems.

The Think Science Competition began in October of 2018. It was open to school aged students from grades nine through twelve and university students residing in the UAE. Each Emirate held its own Think Science Competition, selecting 100-200 projects to compete against each other for the opportunity to advance and showcase their projects at the Think Science National Competition 2019 Awarding Ceremony, which will be held in April 2019. The Ras Al Khaimah location for the event was the RAK Exhibition Center and the projects that were submitted were The House Guardian, the Testbed for nanosatellite Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS), the University Mobile Application, the Virtual Orientation Application Removing Black Powder from Oil Pipelines: An Experimental Research Studying the Effect of Nano Particles and Polymers for Inhibiting Carbonate Self-Imbibition in Water-Based Drilling Fluids, Oil and Gas Produced Water Treatment using Membrane Distillation, and MeznSat.

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was pleased with the opportunity for students to be able to apply classroom theory to real-world situations, “We must capitalize on every opportunity for our students to experiment with classroom theories in attempts to mold those theories into solutions for real-world problems, in order for the student to better understand the concepts, causing them to solidify the knowledge as their own.”
