Expo Live is a partnership program encouraging the development of solutions for global progress, utilizing the World Expo as a worldwide platform. The Innovation Program, launched by Expo 2020 Dubai, stimulates creative thinking and collaboration among university students to solve UAE and Gulf regional challenges.

A computer science engineering team and a chemical engineering team from AURAK have been awarded grants to aid them in the competition. The computer science team consisting of Hamad Alhebsi and Omran Alzaabi and led by the Director of ICONET, Dr. Abdul Halim Jallad, received a grant in the amount of 48,961 AED for their project, “The House Guardian.” “House Guardian” is a house protection system that detects and predicts unseen hazards in homes by connecting embedded sensors to a mobile application that notifies occupants of possible dangers and methods of dealing with them.

The chemical engineering team consisting of  Abdulrahman Almallah, Rahul Dhar, and Soumeya Mdahoma and led by Assistant Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Dr. Uday Kumar, was awarded a grant in the amount of 42,500 AED for their project, “Novel Solar PV-T Driven Tri-generation of Potable Water, Heat, and Electricity - A Sustainable Alternative to Bottled Water.” Their project focuses on using renewable energy sources through Solar PV-T Driven Tri-generation to reduce plastic bottle consumption, reducing plastic waste, the threat against marine life, and health risks.

“Practical application of classroom theory is fundamental in learning.” AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was delighted with this valuable learning opportunity, “In participating in Expo Live 2020, students will see first-hand the materialization of classroom concepts blended with their own ideas, resulting in imperative career knowledge while saving lives.”
