Today saw the launch of International Education Week 2016 at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), an initiative organized by the Department of International Partnerships and Programs (DIPP).

The initiative, which consists of a week-long program of activities, aims to promote cultural understanding and the study abroad opportunities on offer at AURAK.

The first talk, delivered by Ms. Heather McGann, manager of the DIPP, focused on the advantages of exposure to, and immersion in, a foreign culture. She also discussed the types of programs available to AURAK students and reviewed the university’s partner institutions across North America, Europe and Asia at which students can choose to study.

The opening day of international education week also featured a talk from Dr. Kai Bruns, titled “Typically German? About Bratwurst, BMWs and Beyond”, in which he discussed aspects of German culture and national identity, including one of the most pressing issues facing contemporary society, ‘why do Germans wear socks with sandals?’

Further events are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
