How to Innovate in a Smart City

As part of the University’s participation in UAE Innovation Week 2015, an initiative implemented by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which runs from Sunday, 22nd November, to Saturday, 28th November, the AURAK Center of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) organized a seminar entitled, “How to Innovate in a Smart City and Become an Entrepreneur”.

Dr. Philippe Bouvier, associate professor at Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University in Dubai, was invited to chair the conference, which took place in AURAK’s Building D.  Dr. Philippe opened the workshop with a talk defining a ‘smart city’ and why such an environment is important for innovation.  Several other topics were discussed, such as the creative process in terms of developing new ideas and the steps required to convert an innovative idea into a reality.

The workshop was attended by several members of the AURAK faculty and staff, as well as students.  The attendees were also keen to interact with Dr. Philippe and ask questions related to innovation in the field of urban development.

Dr. Philippe holds a PHD in Urban Studies (University of Paris) and an executive MBA from INSEAD.  His work focuses on project management and working to improve the management of urban services.
