American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s School of Arts and Science students were delighted to be a part of The Multimedia Self-Portrait Workshop. An event organized by Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (FAF) in collaboration with AURAK faculty from the Department of Mass Communication on Monday, March 14, 2022.
Ms. Kirsten Sands Decker, US Grant Artist at RAK FAF, led the exceptional workshop that was dedicated to fostering the artistic creativity, criticism and expression of the students. In line with AURAK’s mission of prioritizing interactive learning, the seminar offered our students an opportunity to learn and get hands-on experience in various multimedia arts techniques.
As explained by Ms. Decker, “This is a community workshop focusing on self-portraits by using multimedia, not very sophisticated multimedia, but different arts techniques like painting, collage, photocopy and markers. The students have to manually combine all techniques together in order to create their portraits.”
Ms. Hanan Elsayed, Mass Communication Instructor at AURAK, further highlighted that the main purpose of this workshop was to expand and maximize our students’ creative-thinking skills, as well as encouraging them to think outside the box.
