Prof. Sheikh S. Rahman Visits AURAK
Professor Sheikh S. Rahman from the School of Petroleum Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, visited AURAK this week, giving a talk titled ““Smart Water Flooding of Porous Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs for Improved Oil Recovery”.

Prof. Rahman’s research, which was carried out in conjunction with AURAK’s Dr. Reda Abdel Azim, assistant professor of petroleum engineering, was aimed at petroleum engineering majors, and looked at the “several techniques that have been proposed to enhance or improve oil recovery after primary and secondary recoveries.”
Dr. Reda Abdel Azim holds a Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales, and a M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the University of Cairo, all in petroleum engineering. Dr. Reda Abdel Azim has previously worked with Schlumberger Company as a reservoir engineer and with Technical Petroleum Services (TPS) as a senior consultant petroleum engineer. At TPS, Dr. Reda led research programs in the area of integrated reservoir studies and pressure transient analysis.
Prof. Rahman received his Ph.D. in 1984 from Technical University of Clausthal, Germany and gained extensive industrial experience and knowledge in the petroleum industry, and in teaching. During the tenure of his career he has made major contributions to hydro-thermo-mechanical and chemical analysis of borehole stability, hydraulic stimulation of conventional and unconventional reservoirs, multiphase flow simulation in fractured and geothermal reservoirs and flow simulation in coal seam and shale gas reservoirs. He established Australia’s first drilling and well control program and has delivered over 100 industrial seminars on different aspects of well construction and down-hole completion technologies. He is a co-author of a book, titled “Casing Design – Theory and Practice” (Elsevier, 1995).
