The School of Engineering of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) held its initial meeting for the academic year lead by Professor Mousa Mohsen, the Dean of the School of Engineering.

Professor Mousa’s purpose was to “establish a forum of better coordination and cooperation between faculty and staff across engineering departments and to allow them to increase their domains of action within the school. I view this as a great opportunity to listen to our faculty members and staff describe the innovate and impactful work they are doing to move the AURAK School of Engineering forward.”

Professor Mousa commenced by introducing new faculty, summarizing departmental statistics and history, explaining special programs, and reviewing Engineering Professional Societies. There were presentations describing ICONET and RAKRIC detailing the projects each facility sponsors. Enthusiastic discussion followed concerning AURAK’s involvement in ICEWES 2018, Think Science 2019, and Expo 2020 Live.

The meeting concluded with an inquiry from faculty on plans for student recruitment, accreditation reviews, new program creation, the search for external research funds, and publications. Professor Mousa encouraged his faculty to “do good things for AURAK” in cooperating with other AURAK units in acquiring SACSCOC accreditation, set department targets of locating three million in external research funds, and, in efforts to surpass AURAK’s recent triumph of being ranked twelfth in the Scopus database, he challenged his faculty to publish 500 academic entries with the aspirations of AURAK becoming one of the top ten ranked institutions.

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, is appreciative in knowing the Engineering department’s deep-seated commitment to the AURAK vision, “I am grateful for the immense drive the Engineering department has illustrated with setting such ambitious goals that will propel AURAK forward as one of the top educational institutions. Progress is a slow evolution, but with dedicated departments continually pushing forward, it is inevitable.”
