UAE Engineering Deans Council Meeting Held at AURAK

The School of Engineering at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) held its second meeting of the UAE Engineering Deans Council for the 2016-17 academic year.

The meeting saw deans from a total of 12 engineering schools from across the United Arab Emirates, including AURAK’s Prof. Mousa Mohsen, as well as Prof. Badr Aboul-Ela, director of the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), discussing increased collaboration between the council and the CAA.

Throughout the meeting, attendees shared their experiences within the field during the current academic year, also discussing developments in engineering and ways in which effective partnerships between engineering schools and colleges can be established, bearing in mind the main objective of contributing to the preparation of highly-qualified engineering graduates to confront the challenges of the professional world. Attendees also emphasized the important role of in developing innovative engineering programs that focus on sustainability to better serve society within the UAE.

The meeting gave rise to several important facets of schools of engineering in the UAE, including the relationship between CAA and ABET accreditation, the value of membership to the Global Engineering Deans Council, UAE membership to the fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete), the activities of standing committees, and upcoming events on a local and international level.

Engineer Rayed Al Arashi, a council board member, represented the Society of Engineers – UAE at the meeting, giving a presentation which introduced attendees to the society’s activities.
