Recent trends in the job market include an emphasis on issues of sustainability, communications, and incorporation of Information Technology. Our Civil and Infrastructure Engineering program has a dedicated course in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is highly sought after by employers in the infrastructure sector. Architecture students are trained to utilize parametric modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in developing their building designs. BIM is becoming the norm in the construction sector. Students in the mechanical and electrical engineering programs are exposed to renewable energy technology through developing unique capstone projects such as the design of a Solar Car and a Hydrogen Car. Students in the Computer Science and Engineering programs are participating in developing satellite technology that culminated in the development of the first student-designed and built mini satellite (Mezn Sat). The Chemical Engineering program has components emphasizing wastewater treatment, which is key in the UAE given its scarce water resources.
